We’re all still reeling from the particular events of 9-11! The bodily damage we’re shown daily will be incomprehensible, the loss of life horrific. We are just beginning to understand some of the financial ramifications, and we wait with combined emotions for the specifics of our government’s response.
It’s absolutely shocking to find out that, as a country and people, we are going to hated by some, and that some of the are determined to maim and eliminates us. It’s awful to see our own fellow Americans vent wrath upon Arab Americans and target people of the Islam faith with trend and vengeance.
We’re incredibly shifted by the bravery of the fireplace and rescue teams. The tale of how the passengers of United Flight 93 somehow forced that will plane down in a field just before it got to Washington – on the sacrifice of their own lives, and motivated by their families over cell phones — is positively mind blowing!
Our Program is specific about our have to forgive. On page 66 within “How It Works,” the Big Book states in part, “…we realized that the people who wronged us were perhaps spiritually sick…’God save me from being angry.'” And “We avoid retaliation…” It goes on: “Putting out of our minds the wrongs others had done, we resolutely looked for our own mistakes. Where had we been selfish, dishonest, self-seeking and frightened,”
Although we usually think of these passages as coping with our own, very personal inventory, the particular instructions offer a path for us like a country as well. We do are part of the larger world, and our activities as a nation are not always non selfish.
What’s needed, both for ourself as individuals, and for us since Americans, is an honest self-examination and also a balanced view. We also need a huge dose of compassion and forgiveness. For it is only with a really humble attitude – a wish to seek and know God’s may – that we can decide precisely what sort of response we want to make. The ultimate goal is, I post, world peace and true success for all.
